CHINA LIKE NEVER BEFORE 5

TRAVELING ACROSS CHINA LIKE A BULLET

In 2008, I took an overnight train from Shanghai to Beijing China. When the train doors closed at 7 PM in Shanghai, it opened the next morning in Beijing. This train also called the Sleeper Train. During that time, the high-speed rail was under construction and the Beijing–Shanghai 300 km/h line opened in June 2011.

At present, the best way and easily getting around China is to take the CRH (China Railway High-Speed). The train are clean, modern and comfortable. Unlike the regular train, no smoking in CRH is allowed, all tickets have assigned seats and no passengers sitting on the aisle. Ticket price is reasonable and departures are numerous. Hence I tried the CRH bound to Xi’an China to celebrate my birthday with the Terracotta warriors and horses.

How to purchase CRH ticket?
CRH tickets are available at the ticket office with English service (just look the sign or logo “CRH”) or even in vending machine, but expect a long queue of passengers. Foreign passengers are required to present their passport to purchase CRH ticket therefore foreigners can no longer use the vending machine.
Since CRH ticket is available online, I purchased my Beijing-Xian CRH ticket at CHINA-TICKET-ONLINE and they delivered the tickets to my hotel on the date I requested. The ticket costs CNY515.50 (one way).

Beijing-Xi’an CRH Station
The Beijing-Xian CRH 300km/h was opened on December 26, 2012.

The Bullet or the “G” train, with 10 departures a day, bound to Xi’an departs in Beijing West Railway Station and arrives at Xi’an North Station after 5.5 hours.

The Beijing West Railway station is connected with Beijing subway lines 7 & 9 while the Xi’an North Station is connected to Subway line 2.
